Triphbic time measurement
Only the initiates, the new time knife "Kampfschwimmer" from Mühle-Glashütte reveals its true destiny at first sight. Developed for and with the special forces of the German Navy, the combat swimmer, this watch is a robust timepiece, navigation instrument and identification symbol of this special unit at the same time. The special, sawtooth-like bezel of the model shows clearly how functionality and design meet the requirements of its name patents.
Time measurement is an important factor for combat swimmers. Whether it is to reach an operational site, to check the length of a dive to the destination and back, or to send a radio message, a fixed schedule must always be observed. A precise and robust watch is indispensable. With the model "Kampfschwimmer", Mühle-Glashütte, together with the special forces of the same name, has developed a timepiece, which is at home in all elements and takes up the nautical tradition of the mill-glashüttes.
The water provides special protection for the combat swimmers when approaching a place of deployment, but at the same time it also places the highest demands on the soldiers and their equipment. These requirements are met by the "combat swimmer" model at all levels. A special feature is the three-minute division of the bezel. This unusual time unit is of the utmost importance for the combat swimmers. They are trained to travel a distance of three minutes in a dive. In the three-year training as a combat swimmer, dives are performed daily for three months - usually at dusk or at night - to be able to call up a specific timing in case of emergency with the necessary uniformity and exactly at the right pace. With the three-minute division of their new timepiece and in conjunction with a compass, the combat swimmers can orient themselves perfectly. Because as soon as the minute hand of the "Kampfschwimmer" has moved from one lunette index to the next, the soldiers know that they have a precisely defined distance and can do their dive as planned.
Besides the task as a navigation instrument and as a robust timepiece, the new mill timer also fulfills another function. This year, the Battle Swimmer Company is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The soldiers want to celebrate this anniversary with a timepiece, which not only meets the needs of the special forces, but also fulfills representative functions - and with whose design the members of the unit can identify. Thus, the individually designed, sawtooth-like bezel of the watch is oriented to the badge of the combat swimmers: the sawfish. In addition, there is not only the tactical number of the respective soldier on the stainless steel floor of the watches that are delivered to the unit, but also the anniversary logo for the 50th anniversary of the fighting swimmer company.
The result of the various requirements of the combat swimmers, the triphic operating special forces of the navy, is a watch optimized for the time measurement to water, on land and in the air. The novelty of Mühle-Glashütte, however, also came to the sea by a masculine-sporty design and robust functionality.
